Super promoters Leave Me Here make a welcome return to the promotions biz with a hot and heavy line-up. Psychedelic mentalists The Cosmic Dead head up the Tyne Bar line-up, which also features Teesside-by-way-of-Leeds’ noisemaker Girl Sweat. Not a bad way to start your week!

Sunderland comic Matt Reed takes charge of a comedy night filled with improvised mayhem. Billed as a night of stupidity, where anything could happen, strap yourself in for a night of spur-of-the-moment hilarity.

Wednesday 9th September
FILM How To Change The World @ ARC, Stockton
This gripping film tells the tale of eco-hero Robert Hunter and his group of activist friends, who set sail from Vancouver to stop Nixon’s atomic bomb tests in Amchitka, Alaska. Chronicling the beginnings of what would become Greenpeace, the screening will be supplemented by a satellite Q&A hosted by Mariella Frostrup and featuring legendary fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, director Jerry Rothwell, Robert Hunter’s daughter Emily and other special guests.

Thursday 10th September
MUSIC Shitwife @ Head of Steam, Newcastle
Sporting one of our favourite band monikers of the year, Shitwife’s laptop and live drum spectacle makes a racket loud enough to send your eardrums begging for mercy. Having recently released their debut album, Big Lad, they’re certain to shake the newly renovated Head of Steam to its very core.

Friday 11th September
STAGE Key Change @ Live Theatre, Newcastle
Having won the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh award at the recent Edinburgh Fringe Festival, locally grown theatre makers Open Clasp return triumphantly to Live Theatre to present their stunning show, Key Change (pictured). Working with female prisoners at HMP Low Newton, the play is a raw and illuminating portrayal of women in prison. (Also running on Saturday 12th)

Saturday 12th September
MUSIC The Polyphonic Spree @ O2 Academy, Newcastle
The multi-limbed genre-spanning Texans return to UK shores to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their ground-breaking album, The Beginning Stages Of…, which they will perform in full.

Sunday 13th September
ART & LIT Heritage Open Days @ Various Locations
Whether you fancy a mooch around Newcastle’s historic Castle, Gateshead Old Town Hall’s Victorian police cells or Middlesbrough’s Georgian Ormesby Hall, Heritage Open Days provides the perfect excuse to get out and about on a Sunday afternoon. The open days (running from Thursday 10th until Sunday 13th September) shine a light on some of the region’s most stunning buildings, offering the masses a rare opportunity to get a glimpse of locations not usually open to the public, as well as some treasured gems.
