Stuck for something to do in the next seven days? We aim to have you covered with an event a day for the next week, all across the region. This time around we have cheeky comedy, a powerful film, single launches and more.

Monday 16th May
COMEDY Rob Beckett @ ARC, Stockton
Taking on the big issues like Kit Kats and flatbread, the cheeky cockney comic’s contagious energy is such a big hit, ARC have had to add this second date to accommodate demand after the first date sold out, so a big night of laughs is in store.

Tuesday 17th May
FILM Oriented @ Mining Institut, Newcastle
Tuesday is International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT); a worldwide celebration of sexual and gender diversities. To mark the day, there’s a special screening of feature length documentary Oriented, which follows the lives of three gay Palestinian friends confronting their national and sexual identity in Tel Aviv, Israel. It’s a truly special documentary which is gathering rave reviews around the world.

Wednesday 18th May
MUSIC Rae Spoon, Daniel Versus The World, Mama Lips @ Summerhill Bowling Club, Newcastle
A trio of talented and very unique musicians come to Newcastle on Wednesday. There’s the organic, electronic blend offered up through catchy choruses and bouncy melodies of Rae Spoon, alongside the subtle tenderness of piano driven pop from Daniel Versus The World and the folksy pop punk of Mama Lips in a wonderfully put together line-up.

Thursday 19th May
MUSIC Lisbon @ Independent, Sunderland
Lisbon release new single Shark this month, and their joyous melodies and indie pop noise is taken out on a third headline tour too. Taking in Sunderland on Thursday, it’s a chance to catch the quartet massively on the rise.

Friday 20th May
STAGE The Frights @ Alphabetti Theatre, Newcastle
The Frights is a twisting, darkly funny play that explores the shades of right and wrong and asks: is there ever a right time to look the other away? It closes its run at Alphabetti Theatre on Saturday too, part of a unique double bill with the Response Plays, pieces written in response to it, it’s well worth catching before the curtain’s drawn on this incredible play.

Saturday 21st May
MUSIC Fractions Single Launch @ The Northumberland Arms, Newcastle
Brilliantly intricate and captivating synth pop is what Fractions have become known for, and a new single release happens Saturday, all celebrated with a free show at Northumberland Arms.

Sunday 22nd May
ART & LIT Seeing A Who @ Vane, Newcastle
With works inspired by a much-loved children’s book that are both politically and militarily themed, Seeing A Who – the new exhibition from Gateshead-based Michael Mulvihill and Pasadena, USA-based Elizabeth Saveri – explores big themes through the medium of miniature paintings and drawings, at Newcastle’s Vane Gallery.
