MUSIC Paul Smith & The Intimations @ Georgian Theatre, Stockton
The Maximo Park frontman brings his latest solo record to Teesside with the help of his Intimations (otherwise known as Warm Digits’ Andrew Hodson and bassist Claire Adams), the band perform reflective pop gems from Contradictions.

Handpicked by the Tyneside staff, The Fountain is a science fiction romp featuring Hugh Jackman and directed by Requiem For A Dream director Darren Aronofsky, depicting a time-tripping tale of a man’s thousand year quest to save the woman he loves.

STAGE Grow Up Grandad @ ARC, Stockton
Written by Teesside-based award-winning writer Gordon Steel, his powerful and poignant play offers moments of hilarity and warmth.

Friday 4th September
STAGE Fun In The Oven @ Alphabetti Theatre, Newcastle
Cabaret night to raise funds for female theatre company Fun In The Oven. Expect theatre, comedy, music and much more.

Saturday 5th September
MUSIC Boiler Shop Steamer @ The Boiler Shop, Newcastle
The usual mixture of top scran and whistle wetting booze is on offer at the monthly Steamer, with music provided on Saturday night by dance/folk fusion act Monster Ceilidh Band, jazz supremo Lindsay Hannon Plus, slick R&B grooves from SoShe and disco rock goodness from ICENI. Sunday 6th September
ART & LIT Northern Spirit @ Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle
Having opened earlier this week, why not take the opportunity for a relaxing Sunday afternoon stroll around Laing Gallery’s new exhibition which celebrates the achievements of artists, manufacturers and makers from the North East.
