Lost Voice Guy (aka Lee Ridley), who has previously won the BBC New Comedy Award and has recently had a sitcom commissioned by BBC Radio Four, is about to take his new show Inspiration Porn up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August. Before that though, Lee’s making a playlist to play before his show starts. We’ll let Lee explain a little more…

One of the things that I enjoy most about taking a show up to the Edinburgh Fringe (apart from getting drunk with loads  of comedians every night, of course) is the fact that I can force my audiences to listen to whatever I want before my show starts. Comedy and music are two of my biggest loves so it’s kind of nice that I get to combine the two for a little while every August.

Of course, with great power comes great responsibility, and I wouldn’t let my audiences listen to any old shit. For me, the pre-show playlist is almost as important as the show itself. It helps set the mood for the hour ahead and also gives people an insight into what kind of person I am. A lot of people have complimented me on my playlists in the past, so I must be doing something right!

But I also like to use my pre-show playlist to introduce people to bands they may not have heard of (new or old, it doesn’t really matter, as long as it’s good). And this is where you come in. I try to seek out new music as much as I can, but even I can miss a gem or two. Which is why I’ve set up a collaborative playlist on Spotify for this year’s pre-show music. Basically, I want you to recommend bands that you think myself and my audiences might like.

You can get an idea of what sort of stuff I’m into by checking out the Edinburgh playlist that I’ve used for the last few years here. As a playlist, I still love listening to it but it’s time for a bit of a change.

You can check out what I’ve added to my 2017 Edinburgh playlist so far and add your own suggestions here.

But please don’t add anything that’s depressing as fuck, my jokes are bad enough without everyone being miserable before I even get up on stage….

You can see Lost Voice Guy’s new show at Jesterval on Friday 28th July.
