Rockers Edge Of Obsidian release their new nine track album in the very near future, and are also set to play O2 Academy, Newcastle on Friday 24th August. Before that, we found out a little bit more about what keeps them inspired…

As someone who wears their heart on their sleeve, it comes as no surprise that I find it relatively easy to put my thoughts and feelings into music, it’s almost therapeutic for me. As a band, we all have our own stories and tales to tell, this is where our new album comes in. In our personal lives we’re all a pretty depressive bunch, but when we come together to make music, the magic really happens. Our new album is a delicious mix of meaningful music blended together with catchy hooks and memorable melodies that will have you coming back for more.

Our main musical inspirations come from bands like the Pretty Reckless and Halestorm, although I have been told on several occasions that our sound has hints of Avenged Sevenfold too. I guess this makes sense as they were the first live band I saw when I was younger and they always inspired me with their huge sound and energy. Most of our music is based around a single guitar riff which sets the foundation for the song. This is then built up by adding in the rhythm and finally the vocals which add harmony and emphasise the underlying theme of the track.

If someone asked me to choose my favourite track on the album, I would probably have to say Heart of Ash. This song came to me after the end of a long-term relationship (I won’t go into detail) but it basically depicts the emotions I was going through at the time. I’m sure most people will be able to relate to this one. It’s also got one of the catchiest hooks as well and I always seem to find myself humming it without realising.

Anyway, to tie things up, we’ll be launching our new album at our headlining show at the o2 Academy Newcastle on the 24th August. We’ll be supported by other local bands who we’ve asked to play because of their ability to bring loads of energy and will definitely put on a good show. Tickets are only £6 too so hope to see you there!
