As we are set to bring the curtain down on 2018, we’re already looking ahead to what’s coming up next year. Over Christmas week we’ll be taking a look at the exciting shows on offer across the various art forms during the first couple of months of next year. First up, we’re taking a look at the world of comedy.

There’s a lot to take in and as always The Stand in Newcastle is a leading light. There’s the usual weekend shows, and a mix of regular monthly treats like Simon and Chris Donald’s Donald Trumps, Good Grief, Kids Comedy, Faking The News with John Scott, Seymour Mace making it up as he goes along, The Footbaaaall Show, Matt and Hal’s Gag Reels and the new act night Red Raw which is always a favourite. January welcomes shows from Tony Jameson on Sunday 6th, Spontaneous Potter on Tuesday 15th, Flo and Joan & Sunday 20th, Carl Hutchinson on Sunday 27th and Dave Johns on Tuesday 29th January.

February find Stephen Bailey along Tuesday 12th, a one-off special from Matt Reed and Gavin Webster as The Musical Brothers on Monday 18th, Ahir Shah on Tuesday 19th, Lloyd Griffith on Sunday 24th and Glen Wool on Monday 25th February.

Hilarity Bites‘ year starts in Northallerton on January 3rd, with Paul ‘Silky’ White headlining, then it’s on to the Forum in Darlington with Andrew Lawrence headlining on Saturday January 5th, other regular nights continue at The Hole in Wall in Darlington and The Pot House in Hartlepool. There’s plenty of other nights to seek out around the region too as the Hilarity Bites continues to go from strength to strength.

Catch 22 Comedy Club is at ARC in Stockton with Jason Cook, Jack Carroll and more on Friday 25th January, Carl Hutchinson on Saturday 2nd February and Tom Stade on Saturday 9th February.

Cal Halbert is at Funny Way To Be Comedy Club at The Witham, Barnard Castle on Tuesday 8th January, with Lee Kyle there on Wednesday 23rd, Lauren Pattison brings her show Peachy on Tuesday 5th February and political act Matt Forde is there on Wednesday 20th February.

There’s a whole load more laughs to be had too as we start 2019, and we’ll be keeping you in the loop with everything. There’s some amazing tour shows, top line-ups of talent and venues giving home to a sterling scene of talent, as the North East continues to prove it’s a real hotbed for comedy.
