Reliably informed

Newcastle quintet LYRAS are relative newcomers to the scene and take influences from artists such as Hiatus Kaiyote, Corrine Bailey Rae and Moonchild. They release their debut single, Don’t Keep Me Awake, an ear-pleasing offering which takes you on a groove cruise of jazzed up, chill lounge R&B, complete with its heavenly harmonies and seductive story-telling. It was written on the remote island of Lismore in Scotland before the band’s musical endeavours were halted by a global pandemic, which led to them writing and recording remotely via the internet. However, with things starting up again the band have hit the ground running with this latest release and a support slot at the sold out Smoove & Turrell show at Tyne Bank Brewery on Saturday 3rd October.

To celebrate its release the band tell us what their dream show would look like, if money and reality were no object…

It’s the year 2022. A vaccine for coronavirus has been found. CBGB’s in New York has risen from the ashes and Lyras are playing the re-opening. Alongside Lyras are contemporary R&B vocal outfit The Orange Moon Trio (Lauryn Hill, Corinne Bailey Rae and Erykah Badu). Prince and David Bowie play the others greatest hits, while dressed up in each others clothes, Top Gun theme composer Harold Faltermeyer and John Williams can be spotted discussing the pros and cons of the motive over 25 year old scotch and J-Dilla and Paul McCartney debut their new duo, Drunk Beat-les. Catering provided by Grace Alexander’s (keys player in Lyras) Auntie and Greggs. After the music ends everyone mingles (non socially distanced), catches up about all of the incredible live music they have been seeing recently and the packed out gigs they’ve been playing due to governments around the world having pumped $$$$$ into the creative industries. There is a new appreciation for live music, art, theatre, dance and everyone is invited.
