Reliably informed

Welcome to Doorstep Interview, where we find out more about the amazing bands and artists right here in the north east. This time, we have a very brief chat to James Riggall of The Broken Broadcast about the band’s plans and how they inspire each other.

Tell us a bit about yourself. Who are you, where are you from?

We are The Broken Broadcast, from Teesside, we play post rock dream pop and released our debut album How Not To Cut A Buffalo in 2013.

What inspired you to first start making music?

Little bits in songs that give you goosebumps, a strong change from verse to chorus or a clever lyric.

Who would you say are your biggest influences?

We listen to a bit of everything. I think our biggest influence is actually ourselves, and the sounds we put together in our bunker.

How would you describe your sound?

I like to use the word dream pop, generally defines reverb and delay covered indie rock songs. It’s a term that covers most of the bands we individually listen to.

“Hopefully the lyrics and melodies will entertain you whilst still surprising you”

Tell us a bit about your live performances. What can we expect from a gig by The Broken Broadcast?

Hopefully the lyrics and melodies will entertain you whilst still surprising you with a few different sounds, we generally try to do things a little bit different.

Can you tell us what gigs you have planned in the region in the near future?

We played Evo Emerging in May and we’ll be playing VW festival in July. Hopefully we’ll have several gigs around our next album release.

What do you think has been your biggest achievement so far as a band?

Playing to 1000 people in a tent at Galtres. We’ve certainly not achieved what we want to achieve yet!

Have there been any major challenges so far in your musical career?

Generally sports injuries have meant a couple of London gigs being cancelled. We’ll get down there soon!

What else have you got planned for the future?

We’re currently recording our second album, hopefully it will be out in the mid to late summer. We’ve been playing a few songs off it live recently…
