Reliably informed

Writing a work of fiction is a monumental task. Not only does it require an almost unfathomable amount of dedication, but the tiniest of details need to be scrutinised, which become even more vital when it comes to crime writing. Budding Agatha Christie’s are in for a treat, as New Writing North and Northumbria University return with their Crime Story event.

Across the course of a day, 20 experts in fields as wide as policing, forensic science, criminology and mental health will be guiding attendees through the criminal investigation process with the aim of informing and inspiring writing. As well as core seminars and panel events, there’s also the chance to attend creative writing and editing workshops, as well as the opportunity to participate in free one-to-one sessions with industry experts.

It’s all framed by a classic whodunit worthy of Agatha Christie; throughout the day everyone will work together to solve a mystery written by Girl On The Train author Paula Hawkins. Don your deerstalkers, grab the magnifying glass and meet me in the drawing room: the only puzzle you won’t have to crack is whether it’s worth attending.

Crime Story takes place at Northumbria University on Saturday 11th June.
