The Friends of the Hatton, curator Rob Airey and respected local art writers Anne Massey and Gill Hedley are heading to Newcastle’s Hatton Gallery for a one-off lecture on pop art on 18th November. The lecture will discuss the birth of the movement within Newcastle, with particular focus on the links between the gallery itself, Richard Hamilton, the Independent Group, the ICA and Kings College.

The lecture should be eye-opening for anyone who thought that pop art was mostly an American movement made famous by Andy Warhol and Roy Liechtenstein, providing an insight into the phenomenon’s influence on the North East art scene. Thanks to its free entry fee, it’s a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the region’s contemporary art.

Newcastle Goes POP is at the Hatton Gallery on Tuesday 18th November.
