Frenetic energy overload and short, sharp, shear exuberance is the name of the game on Year of Birds‘ Slack Handful. Over 30 songs blast out of the speakers, distorted vocals crackle, rip and heroically battle but ultimately fail to overcome the roar of guitar and rhythms of this seismic encounter, all but drowned in the white noise euphoria.

It is a stop, start, pulsating pulse; a Morse code of musical mayhem. But there’s a twinkle of magic in those rhythms and gold in those riffs. Handed the baton from the twitching corpse of Swell Maps and they certainly run with it after they’ve covered them in their flight path, flapping fantastically. Furious and without any apologies, Slack Handful is a drastic elastic dance.
