There’s a lot to love about Wolf Alice. The polished nature of their skyscraping songs means it’s pretty clear why they’ve been so hyped over the last couple of years, but My Love Is Cool suggests they’re certainly not lacking substance either. It’s an album of extremes, with the lush serenity of Turn To Dust eventually giving way to the tumult of Fluffy, and the playful ‘us against the world’ vibes of Freazy coming not long after the heady intensity of You’re A Germ. For all its diversity though, this is a record which never feels disjointed, instead coming off as a rich patchwork of grunge-gaze textures. A hype band with the ideas to back it up? It’ll never catch on.
