Simon Love is having a mid-life crisis. There’s a predictable ode to Joey Ramone, the self-indulgent throwback The Ballad of Simon Love (“I’ll never own a house”) and the crass insecurities of married life on God Bless The Dick Who Let You Go.

Whereas 2015’s It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time was a semi-serious experiment in 60s pop hooks and self-deprecating lyrical harmonies, Sincerely, S. Love x is sentimental and a little regretful. Luckily for us the less existential offerings on the second half of this record, such as Tennis Fan or the over-the-top brass arrangement on All This Dicking Around (Is Bringing Me Down), are more of what we know and, um, love; albeit with the melancholy still in brackets.
