An exceptional record packed with the magnificently orchestrated electronic beats that we’ve come to expect from John Grant. Its real beauty however, lies within the lyrical content; Grant’s cutting social commentaries fostering an angst filled environment broken up with exquisite doses of humour, such as the use of Hitler in You & Him, the abrasive lyrics likening the individual to the dictator, and how they should study the finer points of decoupage.

However, these jovial blasts are fleeting, as the darkness of the record takes over, the harsh, and at times unsettling, lyrics always at the fore. The album is steeped in sadness, anger and love and there is no doubt that this is John Grant’s finest work to date.
