At seven tracks running to barely over twenty minutes, Liz Harris’ tenth album as Grouper barely qualifies as a full-length: this however isn’t to suggest that Grid Of Points is any less meticulous or full of nocturnal epiphanies as her previous work.

Continuing the piano driven direction of Ruins but scaling back her signature reverb and delay even further, this is the clearest portrait of Liz Harris as singer-songwriter we’ve received to date, and it’s proof that her minimalistic melodicism, spacious arrangements and signature vocal harmonies retain the power to haunt even without the usual miasma. Birthday Song and Parking Lot might be the most striking individual pieces here, but as ever with Grouper, it’s the beautiful, abstract whole that demands your appreciation.
