Despite the name of Darlia’s mini-album being Petals, it’s far from a lightweight offering. Tracks like Stars Are Aligned and Dear Diary are packed with a sharp bite, and grungy slow burner I’ve Never Been to Ohio certainly wets our appetite for their 90s-tinged rock and roll. The band also aren’t afraid to very subtly drop a few pop vibes in there for good measure too. Say Your Prayers is an atmospheric stadium-filler, with its bittersweet soft vocals, and Queen of Hearts has a groove to make Nile Rodgers jealous.

Petals also features a new version of Queen of Hearts, a song that exploded into our consciousness last year. The acoustic tracks are the difference between it being an EP and a mini-album, but they definitely do the songs justice, stripping away the noise to make way for the brilliant songwriting. All in all, a grand taste of things to come.
