Russian bands tend to be overtly political in this Putin era, but that’s not the case on Saint Petersburg native Angelic Milk (aka Sarah Persephona)’s debut album, which wears its influences proudly on the sleeves of its whiskey-soaked baby doll dress.

Tracks like Ball Gag Ki$$ throw proud head bangs in the direction of the riot grrrl of Babes In Toyland and Hole, whilst at the other end of the spectrum there is the heavenly dream pop of lush single in waiting When The Limousines Pass By, and Helluva Dr drips with as much sleaze as the countrified Winona does with moonshine.

Lyrics are occasionally hard to decipher which only serves to heighten the mystery and leave you questioning whether this angel has fallen or not. Regardless, it’s fantastic.
