Reliably informed

Welcome to A Week of Late Shows, where we’re looking a bit deeper at some of the amazing events happening across Newcastle and Gateshead after dark on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th May!

Travelling Hearth @ North Wing

As a partnership of visual and culinary artists, Travelling Hearth enjoy nothing more than exploring the nature of “hearth” and “home.” They look at cooking from a performance stance, examining the rituals and rhythms around the preparation, cooking and serving the food we eat. Basically, they’re a bit like culinary historians with an absolute passion for anything tasty.

Across the two days of The Late Shows, the Travelling Hearth are aiming to create yet another social space at North Wing and want us to share our stories as well as combine food and art in a unique environment. Whether it’s enjoying a broth at the upcycled soup kitchen or baking bread around the hearth, it’s an adventure no foodie will want to miss.

Ouseburn Farm

Old MacDonald had a farm, and on that farm he had… local artists. In the Ouseburn Farm café you’ll find a variety of artists, all connected to the farm in some way, displaying a range of work in different mediums. You can also grab a hot or cold meal to set you up for the rest of the night, making it one of the perfct locations to kick off your Late Shows experience.

Don’t worry though, there’ll still be the chance to pet all the adorable animals usually found down the farm, as well as the opportunity to have your face painted and pick up some fresh produce from the farm shop. Hurry though, as the farm is only open until 10pm – the animals need their beauty sleep!

Phoenix Aerial Arts @ Hangar 51 (Friday 15th May only)

Do you want to see what goes on behind the scenes at Phoenix Aerial Arts? Well, here’s your big chance! Hangar 51 is opening its doors for a one-off evening of Opening Rehearsals. The work space will come to life with aerial movement, corde lisse, trapeze, hoops, aerial rope and martial arts.

The members of PAA will be demonstrating different aspects of their training and rehearsing some of their new works. It’s a rare chance to see them at work and will be eye-opening for anyone interested in performance, acrobatics and aerobics. Exhausting work, but thrilling to watch!

36 Lime Street

If you’re coming towards the middle of your night then you might be feeling a little bit tired from all your adventures (I know I was last year!) At 36 Lime Street they’re putting out the comfy chairs, tables, lamps, teapots and t-shirts to create a cosy experience. Sorry if you’re developing a bit of a blister though, as this is all part of IDEA (see what they did there?), a pop-up home made up of unique pieces of art. A lot of the pieces of furniture and other pieces made by the artists will be for sale, meaning you can give your own front room a bit of extra flair. Sorry we couldn’t help that blister though…
