Reliably informed

Over the past week we’ve been looking at al the events taking place before 11pm at this year’s Late Shows in Newcastle and Gateshead on Friday 15th May and Saturday 16th May. But what if it’s 11pm and you’re just getting started? For that, we present our pick of the “after party” events, The Late Late Shows!

Alphabetti Theatre

Never been to the Alphabetti Theatre before? Now’s the perfect opportunity! The cosy, 55-seater venue is one of Newcastle’s newest additions to the cultural scene and they’re presenting a range of after-hours treats to keep you satisfied after the main party’s over. Alphabetti’s comedy sketch troupe present Eggs In Teacups, while Alphabetti Soup, curated by Wilf Stone, kicks off their famous variety night.

The Cumberland Arms (Saturday 16th May only)

DJ Tim McVicar is presenting The Remix Edition of the People’s Playlist – dance until you can’t walk from 11pm to 1am! If you get there a bit early, you can also indulge in some specially curated sound, light and art installations to help relax you before the party really gets started.

Ernest

On both night, Ernest is opening its doors to the public to present Dis-Glow, a double whammy of fluorescent nights for a Late Late Shows special. If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, feed a friend – or a stranger, if you like – a day-glo jelly or take a snifter of one of their specially crafted cocktails. Oh, and they’ve also got DJs, dancers, street food, fire bowls, interactive art and everything else but the kitchen sink!

Tyneside Bar Café (Saturday 16th May only)

Come down and experience the film that made archaeology and getting your hands a bit grubby look cool – Raiders of the Lost Ark! The now-traditional screening has been relocated to the Bar Café and is a must for any fans of Spielberg and action flicks. There will also be screenings of short cult movies and a set from DJ Lady Annabella, spinning some amazing film-related tunes.

World Headquarters (Saturday 16th May only)

WHQ are opening their doors to Late Shows partygoers once again as they present Upliftng Groove. Newcastle’s premier independent, truly underground, musically-driven club is offering an amazing mix of tunes from all the genres you can possibly fathom, as well as ones you can’t! Remember, if you wave your glowstick on the door, you can get a reduced entry fee into the club!
